College Guatemala Day 6
Our team woke up early and after eating some breakfast, took some time piling all the things we would need for the day.
This last day of VBS was special because not only were the games water themed (which was the kids favorite kinds), we were having a community day in the afternoon! We had been inviting all the kids and the families we’d meet on house visits, and hoped to see most of the town there. I was on the Bible Application team during VBS, and since I didn’t have a main role, it was really cool to sit back and listen to the story of God asking Abraham to sacrifice Isaac along with the kids. They seemed to understand the concept of trusting in God and sacrificial giving Him the hardest things in our lives, according to His plan.
After the kids had left, the school teachers made a delicious lunch of Guatemalan food for us, and it was such a treat to relax some with them before the hectic time of community day. We had many activities planned, from nail painting, hair styling, face painting, bracelet making, corn hole, jump rope, soccer, and even a Photo Booth! So many families came, and it was so sweet for the parents to see their kids have such a fun, joy filled time! I got to reconnect with a little girl I was especially close with last year, and we got some time to talk about life! It was amazing for us to watch how God has worked in Jicamapa and in its people, and get to be a part of a very special day for them all.
We ended and packed up everything, saying our bittersweet last goodbyes. We had dinner at the hotel, and finished the night with our debrief of worship, a devotional on Hebrews 11, and testimonies from two team members. I was blown away by how our team was sustained by God throughout our longest day yet, and how we could share His incredible, unconditional love to both the kids and adults of Jicamapa.
